Comic Wednesday!

Hi all! I hope that everybody had a great holiday season and a very Happy New Year to all! We are returning with the Girls of Geek blog and it is comic Wednesday!

This Wednesday I’d like to bring up two names that will be attending Denver Comic Con later this year, Gail Simone and Katie Cook. I feel like whenever I go into the comic book store I am the only girl there, in fact I can’t think of a time that I have seen another girl at my local comic book store.

Girls can be into comics too! Hey, I don’t even mind that the girl characters in comic books tend to be on the scantly dressed side. At least in the books that I read, most of the time they’re super heroes, and that is enough for me. So I wanted to take a few minutes to appreciate the work of two of my favorite women in the comic world.

Gail Simone is currently with DC Comics, she is currently the write for DC’s New 52 Batgirl and co-writer of The Fury of Firestorm. She is well known for her work with DC Comics Birds of Prey. She is currently the only female writer at DC Comics, which is a sad fact but it is an amazing accomplishment for her!

Katie Cook currently has a web comic called Gronk. Katie has done licensed work for DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Lord of he Rings, Heroes, and Star Wars (just to name a few). She is also involved in the Fraggle Rock Comic books. The first issue was penned and drawn by her. I encourage you to all check out her web comic!

I can’t wait to meet these two amazing women at Denver Comic Con. Both make me proud to be a girl and into comic books. I congratulate them on following their passion! They are very talented and represent geeky women in the comic book world!
